Overview

At Warren County Water District, we take great pride in our role of ensuring high-quality water and wastewater services to homes and businesses throughout the county. Clean, safe drinking water and reliable wastewater service are mainstays of healthy, vibrant communities, and we are committed to ensuring these services are affordable and available to our region now and in the future.

WCWD provides these critical services throughout one of the fastest growing regions in the state. In fact, based on the 2000 census, Warren County has the 4th largest population increase in Kentucky, adding 15,489 people (20.7 percent) between 1990 and 2000. During the same time, the number of WCWD customers grew 42 percent.

Our Customers

With a diverse blend of residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial customers, WCWD works diligently to serve approximately 24,000 water customers with an average of 6.4 million gallons of water each day. We also collect and dispose of wastewater from over 4,000 customers around the county.

WCWD has a joint operations agreement with Butler County Water System, Inc. and Simpson County Water District where we serve over 7,800 additional customers.

The Systems That Serve You

WCWD maintains over 1,100 miles of pipeline, along with 31 pumping stations and 28 storage tanks throughout a 530-square-mile area. The sewer system includes over 140 miles of sewer. We test the purity of the water that is delivered to you an average of 75 times each month to ensure its quality around the clock.

Where Your Water Comes From

WCWD purchases most of its water from Bowling Green Municipal Utilities (BGMU), which draws water from the Barren River. Both utilities work in close partnership to ensure constant high-quality water to customers. An annual report of our water testing and results can be found on our site’s Water Quality section.

Wastewater Services and Environmental Protection

Environmental stewardship is a WCWD priority with efforts aimed at ensuring wastewater facilities are in place and maintained to meet the growing needs of the region, and that facilities are constructed in environmentally-responsible ways.

Today, WCWD manages a network of about 90 miles of sewer mains, 47 wastewater pumping stations and other facilities needed to transport one million gallons of wastewater to BGMU's wastewater treatment plant each day.

WCWD leaders also work closely with the economic development community to keep pace with changing needs and ensure pipelines are in place and in proper working order when needed.

Planning for the future

Warren County is an attractive, inviting place for individuals and industries. For this to continue, WCWD must work closely with planners to (1) identify growth projections and industry needs, (2) open discussion about the best ways to meet those needs, and (3) ensure adequate water and wastewater facilities, ample water supply, and diversified wastewater treatment capabilities are in place when needed.

We regularly compare system capacities to existing and projected customer usage to determine where improvements are needed. The challenge is not only to plan for these improvements, but also find the most economical funding sources in order to keep rates as low as possible for our customers.
