Boil Water Advisory

A water main break has occurred in the Bill Dedmon Road Area; repairs have been made and this advisory is being issued for customers within the affected area.

Although no contamination has been confirmed we recommend that customers boil all water for consumption until 5:00 P.M. Friday, 12/29/17. This advisory will be lifted at the date and time listed unless you are notified otherwise.

People with severely compromised immune system, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. (This is a standard notification required to be included in each public water supply notification.)

Winter Tips

Brrrr, it’s cold – We want to make sure you are prepared with a few Winter Tips. Preventing your water lines from freezing is essential! Restoring your frozen pipes can be costly; be aware that both plastic and copper pipes can freeze and burst.

Before Winter Arrives
· Insulate pipes in your home’s crawl space and attic. Exposed pipes in these areas are more susceptible to freezing.

· Close any openings with insulation or caulk that allow cold air to come in contact with the pipes. You can find air leaks particularly where there are vents, electric wiring and pipes.

· Disconnect any garden hoses. If possible, shut off and drain water from pipes leading to outside faucets.

Leaving Your House Over Winter
· Set your home’s thermostat no lower than 55 F.

· Have someone check on your house regularly to make sure everything is in order.

· Shut off and drain the water system in your house, and turn off your water heater.

 BOIL WATER ADVISORY LIFTED

BOWLING GREEN, KY – The Boil Water Advisory has been lifted for the customers contacted Tuesday evening by our team along Cave Mill Road and the side roads between Small House Road and Harvest Lane.

Reinforcing Healthy Habits

The Wash Your Hands campaign, launched in-conjunction with Global Handwashing Day, to reinforce healthy habits within the community.  The campaign is sponsored by Warren County Water District, Simpson County Water District, Butler County Water System and the Barren River District Health Department.  The community wide Wash Your Hands campaign brings attention to proper handwashing in an effort to keep our community healthy.

“The Barren River District Health Department works to help our communities stay at their optimal health and we are always eager to form partnerships with other organizations that are interested in promoting healthy lifestyles – that’s why this alliance with Warren, Simpson and Butler Water has proven to be successful in the past. As always, our outreach can be stronger when we band together,” stated Lisa Houchin, Barren River District Health Department Community Health Promotion Director.

The Wash Your Hands campaign includes mirror clings for businesses and organizations to use in their facilities for free and “Wash Your Hands” presentations provided by trained Health Educators from BRDHD at no cost for schools and daycares.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, handwashing is the single most important thing we can do to keep from getting sick and spreading illness to others.

General Manager John Dix is pleased to launch this campaign once again with BRDHD.  “The overwhelming response from businesses and schools was a big reason to continue this campaign and partnership. Our team received positive feedback regarding the important reminders to wash for 20 seconds or sing the Happy Birthday song.  Our message is simply to spread the word, not the germs.”

To receive free mirror clings for your business or organization please stop by our offices or the Barren River District Health Department.  Schools and daycares can schedule free handwashing demonstrations by calling Barren River District Health Department at 270-781-8039 (dial ext. 160 ) or emailing [email protected].

No Wipes In the Pipes

Educating the community on a problem that is causing increased expenses and resources for the community is key. Disposable wipes are causing increased problems within Warren County Water District’s wastewater pumping stations. Flushing wipes can cause toilet overflows, expensive plumbing repairs and damage to septic systems, as well as clog pumps and sewer systems. Warren Water District encourages everyone to be part of the solution and pledge to only tossing toilet paper down the toilet.

“Even though a product may indicate they are biodegradable or can be flushed, the fabric does not breakdown fast enough,” explained General Manager John Dix. “There are currently no requirements that a product must meet to be labeled flush-able and with an increase in product choices/demand the problem increases for utilities across the country.”

Warren Water has endured extreme expenses related to clogged wastewater pump stations & pump damage. Clogs cause systems to operate inefficiently and waste electricity. General Manager John Dix added, “Community education will be key to the solution. With involvement within the community Warren Water will be able to sustain efficiency and minimize spending related to wipes.”
