Boil Water Advisories FAQs
Why has a Boil Water Advisory been issued?
The vast majority of Boil Water Advisories are issued in an abundance of caution to affected customers after a reduction of pressure due to a water main break. In these cases, no contamination has actually been detected. In addition to other measures, we test the water and do not lift the advisory until laboratory tests confirm that the water is safe.
What should I do if a Boil Water Advisory has been issued in my area?
A Boil Water Advisory is a notification advising customers to boil tap water before consuming it. Advisories are issued when an event has occurred allowing a possibility for the water distribution system to become contaminated. A precautionary advisory does not mean that that the water is contaminated but is just a precautionary action.
You can boil tap water vigorously for three minutes prior to using it for drinking or cooking.
